I have raised ducks and geese since the age of eight, when living on a small hobby farm in NSW. I now live in Melbourne and have a 13 acre block of land near Dunolly. Some ducks travel up with me each weekend I go up to the block. I have a 6 x 9 metre shed I have decked out fairly comfortably, and now have a pot belly stove installed for the cold nights as well as an outdoor flushing toilet. Monty has even accompanied me on my gold detecting outings in the nearby hills.

I made a decision in 2009 to start breeding coloured Indian Runner Ducks. After years of keeping a mixed flock- including many recued sick or injured ducks - Concentrating on a singe breed- showing and improving on the breed was someting I had never been inviolved with - so went into my new venture with open eyes and ears- eager to learn everything I could.

Welcome to my web site dedicated to my ducks. I hope you enjoy the stories and experiences that will be added to this page in time.

I got my first Runners In eary August 2009. Then in November I had 9 lovely litle Runner ducklings from some eggs posted from NSW. I had a second batch of eggs due later in the month. I have found the Indian Runner ducklings very different to other ducklings I have raised. It will be hard to part with the ones I am not keeping.  There were two very special little ones in that lot. Little Stampy who came and sat in my lap while all the others were running around the yard. And little Flipps. She hatched with a vitamin deficency which made her star gaze and flip over backwards. She had needed special care and was even taken to work on a number of occasions.

The second batch of eggs provided me with a little blue and a splash Indian Runner.

A third lot in the incubator, included a surprise Muscovy in there too.

2011 Update
Well alot has happened since then..I have now incubated over 400 ducklings and have gowing out the first generation of my own Runners... and am heading towards the second generation.  Flipps is the character of the yard- and has a daughter Stevie-Ray who is also a lovely girl. Stevie-Ray hatched blind and Noggin has become her companion and seeing eye duck.  Little Stampy was purchased by a lady who lives fairly close by.  I get periodical updates- the last of which was to tell me he had become a father.  He still loves his cuddles- and follows his new owner around the yard whenever he is able.
